While work remains to be done on the enabling policy environment for nonprofit social enterprises in Ontario, there is much we can do together with our local partners to develop inclusive, local economies. How do nonprofits remain connected to local communities while working to maximize their social and environmental impact? How can they work with their nonprofit, cooperative, foundation and municipal partners to build virtuous circles of economic activity? How do we strengthen relationships with intermediaries that support small nonprofit enterprises access markets, procurement opportunities, and new investment? In this session, we’ll look at examples from several Ontario nonprofits on a journey toward financial sustainability while maintaining a commitment to inclusive, local economic activity. Learn about how these nonprofits navigated challenges and saw opportunities while continuing to push for systems change. Together, we’ll make some collective sense around the current policy landscape that Ontario nonprofit enterprises are working in and their role in shaping it.
